We know you have been painfully trying to calm the raging, internal Republican dysfunction inside your Conference that you probably haven't had a chance to check the mail. For your edification, we've summarized statements and letters from health care, consumer, civil rights and labor groups about your TrumpCare bill. Sit down. It's not pretty.
AARP:
Before Congress changes health care as the American people know it, we must know the likely consequences of the House Democrat legislation, including the number of people who would lose access to their current insurance, the number of jobs lost due to business taxes, the number of uninsured people who would obtain coverage, and the extent of the cannibalization of employer coverage due to Medicaid expansion.
"President Trump's immigration executive orders have brought about confusion and fear. His border wall proposal is unwise, immoral, and very costly.
"I thank Congressman Vicente Gonzalez for his steadfast leadership and invitation. My visit to the Texas border will allow me to hear directly from faith-based groups, immigrant families, community organizations and businesses negatively impacted by the Trump Administration's reckless and ineffective policies. I look forward to gaining more insight."
Republicans unveiled a pair of proposals Monday evening, with plans to mark them up Wednesday in both the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees — a window that excludes hearings and likely won't allow the time for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to examine its costs beforehand.
Pelosi and the Democrats say it's a dereliction to ask lawmakers to vote on legislation of such consequence without an independent assessment of the budget, coverage and quality-of-care impacts.
In a Tuesday letter to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), she asked for a delay.
Health care advocacy and consumer groups across the country are slamming it:
